Applications are invited for a 3-year TUBITAK–funded PhD studentship based in the Oke Lab at the Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics, Izmir Institute of Technology. The student will be working on a project involving characterization of putative RNA-guided TnpB transposases from acidothermophilic viruses. Recent studies indicate that TnpB transposases are evolutionarily and functionally related to the Cas endonucleases of the CRISPR-Cas system and therefore, have the potential to be adapted for genome editing purposes.

The candidate is expected to be a highly motivated and enthusiastic individual with the ability to think and work independently. Applicants should have BSc and MSc degrees in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology or a related discipline.
