Center for Materials Research

Center For Materials Research (IZTECH MAM) was established in December 2001 as a unit under the university President. Its purpose is to provide central laboratory opportunities to be used in experimental studies carried out within IZTECH and interdisciplinary research for the purpose of evaluating the existing sources of raw materials and improving the development of high-tech materials.

Laboratory equipments which are used in common, were brought together under the same roof in order to provide more efficient usage of them. Not only Master and PhD degrees carried out in IZTECH, but also the analysis demands from other universities are welcomed. In addition, IZTECH MAM supports research and application projects which will enable the development needed by industry, offers consulting  and education services to private and public institutions, and cooperates with national and international organizations. Industrialists of the region use our Center for process control, R&D, URGE and problem solving.

The devices that make up the research infrastructure of the Center are: Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM-EDX, EXEM), X-Ray Diffraction (XRD), Scanning Probe Microscope (SPM-AFM/STM), Mechanical Test Equipment (MTC), Thermal Analysis System (DTA/TGA), Surface Area Measurement System (BET), X-Ray Fluorescence Spectroscopy (XRF), Particle Size Measurement System (Sedigraf), and Dilatometer.

Environment Development, Application and Research Center

The Center was established in 2007. Its working areas are: planning the systems and components needed by private sector, project planning and application, conducting performance testing and certifying, making supportive professional and public education, organizing conferences, preparing written and electronic media publications.

The Center provides research and analysis infrastructure support for projects and thesis within our university. It also gives research and analysis support to private sector and public institutions and cooperates with national and international foundations, showing activity in environment.

In our Center; Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometer (ICP-MS), Gas Chromatography Mass Spectrometer (GC-MS), Flame Ionization, Thermal Conductivity and Electron Capture Detector Gas Chromatography Instruments (GC-FID/TCD/ECD), High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC), Ion Chromatography IC), Total Organic Carbon Device (TOC), Fourier Infrared Spectrometer (FTIR), Voltammetry and Analysis and Sample Preparation Systems such as microwave and decomposition can be found.

Biotechnology and Bioengineering Research and Application Center

IZTECH BIOMER acts as a developed central laboratory under the university President. Its infrastructure was started in 2007 and was completed successfully in 2009 with a project by SPO. It’s a complex which involves 9 laboratories serving in a total area of 580 m2. These labs are: 1) Molecular Biology, Microbiology and Genetics Laboratory 2) Instrumental Analysis Laboratory-1 3) Instrumental Laboratory-2 4) Fermentation Technology Laboratory 5) Cell Culture Laboratory 6) Preparation Laboratory 7) Genetic Analysis Laboratory 8) Microbiology Laboratory (Clean Room) 9) Liquid Nitrogen Production Unit.

Where possible, these laboratories are open to all bio-basis works. However, its primary goal is to provide research infrastructure support to both scientific projects in the fields of genomics, industrial biotechnology, biomedical and bioengineering, and to the studies of postgraduates and PhDs.

In BIOMER two types of services are provided by 2 faculty members, 3 experts and 1 technical staff. The first of these is “using device”. Users come to the laboratory with their samples or prepare their samples within the laboratory and measure them with a specific device. The second one is “work package” service. Users perform a particular experiment from the beginning to the end. The necessary equipment and supplies during the experiment as well as the training and consulting services are included in “work package”. Many of the device using services are free of charge; but for the devices requiring high-cost maintenance, and for the consumable items, users are charged with a symbolic basic fee without any profit. All devices and mechanisms are subject to internal and external users, with an appointment in advance.

BIOMER gives scientific consultation and research infrastructure services to projects carried out by R&D centers of private sectors and public institutions. Beside this, BIOMER is willing to serve throughout the country.
